How To Live The Life Of Your Dreams - Interview With a Surf Instructor in Bali
Hi! Please introduce yourself for your readers.
Hi, I´m Kris, 28 years old and born in Hannover, Germany. Since 2011 I work full time as a surf coach and travel around the world.
What have you been doing before surfing became a big part of your life?
I studied business science but actually I started both at the same time. I went to university and worked in Hannover. During my vacations I went surfing in France.
Why did you get started to surf and when was your first time?
I really just wanted to try it, just like I tried snowboarding a few year prior. A couple of weeks before my study began I went to France with a friend to do a beginners surf course for fun.
How was your first time surfing for you and why did this event change your life?
It was amazing and addictive right away… surfing, life at the ocean and all the people you get to know. After my first time on a board all I could think about was planning my next surf trip which I realized just a year later.
When did you actually decide on changing your life?
I took a semester on leave in 2010 and went to France for five months to surf. After this time it was certain to me that I can’t live in Germany and the way is did before.
To which place and to which country did you travel first and why?
France, the place I started surfing. I love this place to this day and I work there every summer. We live in pinewood just behind dunes. What more could you want?
How did your life go on and which countries did you work in since?
Since I dropped out of my studies I work and earn my income in France every summer as surf instructor. During winter I first worked in Fuerteventura, and the next year in Marocco. At the moment I am in Bali.
Did you experience any fascinating encounters with people? Is there a story which impressed you the most?
“There wasn’t one special encounter but I have gained a lot of good friendships since.
What drives you forward?
The joy of surfing.
You love surfing because…?
I can´t describe that… you have to try yourself and experience it!
